Déplacer les montagnes

Though it is a story that involves travel, it is not typical in any way...

After living in Rennes in northwestern France for some time and beginning to pay attention to some troubling signs, Claire determines that it is time to leave that city. As an artist and a creative, she finds that life in Bretagne is a little stale, affecting not only her art, but also every fiber of her being. So, she decides on a new life plan, one that will allow her to travel all over the world, practice her art, meet new people and build community with them. And she is going to do it all with her best pal, her motorcycle - the Phoénix. Feeling freer than she ever has, Claire and her trusty companion take the next big step by taking the ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar from Europe to Morocco, so excited for what the world has to offer. But, Claire’s new life and lifestyle are almost brought to an abrupt halt when a catastrophic event occurs while she and The Phoenix are riding - alone - in a Moroccan desert. Will the Phoénix come back to life or will Claire lose hers before it really has a chance to begin?

Love this book for my novice learners. The story is compelling - the reader HAS to keep reading because we want to know how the problem is resolved! In addition to engaging topic/action the underlying struggle that a character has in deciding what to do is great for teens to experience. I also love that it features realistic characters that are portrayed with their humanity.

    I recommend this product.

    Easy to understand

This story was easy to read without being too repetitive. It is written with the novice student in mind. I love that it ties in another Francophone country for us to explore as well as "le foot"!

    I recommend this product.

    Love El Jersey!

I use El Jersey to enhance our 8th grade "Living on One" thematic unit after students complete a unit on Copa America. The cultural ties to Guatemala and to the Copa are endless. My students really relate to the characters.

    I recommend this product.
