These are not safe books.
They are books about the kid whose father is in prison. The teenager who just crossed a border alone. The student who doesn't have a word yet for who they are. The boy who watches his best friend disappear into a bottle. The girl who has stopped seeing a reason to stay.
These stories exist because someone needed them to.
Human-Centered Books is a collection for educators, counselors, social workers, and anyone who works with young people navigating the hardest parts of being human. These books tackle immigration, undocumented status, LGBTQ+ identity, mental health, homelessness, disability, racial trauma, family incarceration, and substance use — with honesty, with care, and without flinching.
Every book was written because a real student, in a real classroom, needed to see themselves in a story.
These books are for ELL students, native English speakers, school counselors, advisory periods, book clubs, and any classroom brave enough to start the conversation.
